Bicycle Knocks UPDF Soldier Dead

After police found Sinowa’s body alone at the clinic without any UPDF personnel to avail more information, it was picked and taken to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary in Kabale district for postmortem.

A 35-year-old Uganda Peoples Defense Force(UPDF) soldier has been knocked dead with a bicycle in Rubanda district. 

The deceased has been identified as Private 225358 Wilson Sinowa, attached to Murore UPDF Detach in Rubanda town council under 19th battalion in Kabale district.

A colleague of the deceased attached to Murore detach told our reporter on condition of anonymity that the incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 08:00 PM at Mukibundwe within Murore A village in Rubanda town council.

He says that Sinowa was walking along Kabale-Kisoro road in Murore village when a yet to be identified bicycle rider knocked him, addning that Sinowa who was in the town council for a social hour sustained serious head injuries.

Elly Maate, police spokesperson for Kigezi region confirmed the incident saying that Sinowa was rushed to Heal Medical Centre Clinic Rubanda in Rubanda town council but succumbed to injuries on Monday morning. 

Maate says that after the incident, the yet to be identified bicycle rider took off. He added that after police found Sinowa’s body alone at the clinic with no UPDF army personnel to avail more information, it was picked and taken to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary in Kabale district for postmortem.

He adds that efforts to trace the bicycle rider are underway. The case is registered at Rubanda police station under file number TAR 04/2021.

Our reporter was unable to get a comment from Lieutenant Colonel Robert Nahamya, the UPDF 19th Battalion Commander since he could not pick his mobile phone.
