Jinja Hippos plays against Black pirates
The black pirates defeated Jinja Hippos rugby club 36-33 during their second last game played at Jinja city-based rugby grounds on Saturday. Pirates are rated as one of the consistent top three teams in the rugby premier league and often earned bonus points from Hippos with ease over the past three seasons.

However, the Hippos had a competitive game, which saw a fierce clash on Saturday. The Pirates edged a notch higher against their hosts after earning 19 points nil in the first 20 minutes of the game. The Hippos earned themselves two tries, two successful conversions and a penalty shootout to earn themselves 14 points before the close of the first half.

The Pirates team captain, Ivan Magomu says that the Hippos exhibited a fighting spirit but they employed exceptional tactics to win the game. Magomu stresses that their late head coach, Robert Sseguya's legacy of winning at all costs has made Hippos, a competitive team in the league.

"I was coached by Sseguya during my early days at the under 19 rugby team and I believe that following his demise, Hippos players have carried forward his winning mentality, which they have materialized on to give us a competitive game," he said.

Hippos' captain, David Wako said that Sseguya empowered them with skills in playing tactical rugby and they have exercised themselves in the same disciplines to effectively improve their competitiveness in the top-flight league.

"We were heartbroken after losing our head coach at the start of the season. However, his legacy in tactful rugby skills continues to live on with us and we shall forever perfect them so as to fulfil his dream of making Jinja Hippos, the best team in the league," he said.
