Boda Boda Cyclist Charged, Remanded for Kidnapping American Tourist

Court presided over by Andrew Katurubuki heard that Onesmas Byaruhanga alias Kalisa Elias Kahonaho Kasurubana a resident of Kishamba village, Kanungu town council and others still at large, armed with a gun kidnapped an American tourist, Kimberley Sue Endicott.

The Grade One Magistrates’s court in Kanungu has charged and remanded a 43-year-old boda-boda Cyclist for kidnap and aggravated robbery.

Court presided over by Andrew Katurubuki heard that Onesmas Byaruhanga alias Kalisa Elias Kahonaho Kasurubana a resident of Kishamba village, Kanungu town council and others still at large, armed with a gun kidnapped an American tourist, Kimberley Sue Endicott.

According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred at Edward Flats inside Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kameme village, Kibimbiri Parish, Kihihi Sub County, Kanungu District with intent to procure a ransom contrary to Section 243(I) (c) of the Penal Code Act.

The charge sheet also indicates that the suspects stole Kimberly’s mobile phone valued at 1 million shillings. They also robbed Jean-Paul Mirenge's 1.5 million shillings, $850 US Dollars Cash and two mobile phones valued at 2 million shillings.

The suspects also robbed of a Binoculars camera worth 3 million shillings from Kimberly’s father identified as Martin Jurrius.

Andrew Katurubuki, the Kanungu Grade One Magistrate did not allow the suspect to enter plea on grounds that the case is capital and beyond his jurisdiction.  Katurubuki remanded the suspect to Kanungu District Government Prison until May 2nd, 2019 when he will return to court.

Police had said that the victims were released after a ransom of 37.5million shillings.
