Bududa District Fails to Shortlist Applicants for Interviews due to Lack of Wage Budget

The district advertised for 21 vacant positions in Production department which attracted over 250 applicants months ago.

Bududa district has failed to shortlist applicants who applied for jobs in Bududa district.

The district advertised for 21 vacant positions in Production department which attracted over 250 applicants two months ago.

The positions include veterinary and Agricultural officers.

URN has learnt that the department has no wage to recruit even after advertising.

Applicants like Peter Wenwa,  Irene Nambozo, Godfrey Nabende among others are asking why the district advertised for those positions when there was no wage for payment of those workers if recruited.

They asked whether it can be possible to sue the district for wasting their time.

Felix Odongo, the Bududa district production officer said his department is still limping in terms of staff hence poor performance in extending agricultural knowledge to farmers.

He asked the government to increasing the wage allocation so that they can be able to recruit workers in the district.

John Wakinya the Bududa service commission chairperson said they were instructed by the CAO to halt the exercise until further notice.

Tappy Namulondo, the Bududa district Chief Adminstrative Officer said they included the wage on the department of production which the finance ministry later said was not theirs but for health department.

She said that the blame should not be apportioned to them but the finance ministry because for them as a district, they deed their part.

She added that many workers are currently assisting on other sub counties of the high staffing gaps.

// Cue in: “It is straining….//

Cue out: …that receive services”.//

Bududa has 28 sub counties with only 23 extension staff.

But each sub county is supposed to have a recommended staffing of four making 112 extension workers.

This forces one extension staff to operate in more than one sub county hence poor service delivery.
