Bududa Election Police Constables Protest for Their Pay.

Many Police constables who spoke to our reporter like say officials are asking for the appointment letters before they can talk of payment yet the letters were sealed in black boxes after elections with others not given adding that this could be a trick to deny them their money which they have worked for.

More than 50 Police constables who secured the election exercise are bitterly protesting over  missing their allowances. Thursday evening found them still camped at the Bududa District Headquarters demanding for payment. 

Recently Bududa recruited over 300 police constables and trained them to work at polling stations in the district during elections. Each police constable was to be paid 50,000 shillings per each day of voting. 

Many Police constables who spoke to our reporter like say officials are asking for the appointment letters before they can talk of payment yet the letters were sealed in black boxes after elections with others not given adding that this could be a trick to deny them their money which they have worked for.

They say they put in transport money to those places and facilitated themselves for feeding but have not received their allowances. They are now crying out to be considered rather than being asked for appointment letters, which they say, are not there for now.

The officers who were paying other polling agents told this repoiter that they cannot pay anyone without an appointment later as that would be irregular, since there is no way of knowing that such a claimant worked.They locked up the offices and left at six, leaving the police constables, who had removed their police uniforms, hanging around.

The Efforts to get a comment from Jafari Magyezi the district police commander were futile, as he could not pick our repeated calls However, a source from police told our reporter that there are some constables who were not trained with others who did not even work but have been given money, something that have annoyed them as police.

He said electoral commission should not to use appointment letters as a basis because not all received them.
