The Bukomansimbi Grade 1 magistrate, Aisha Natembo has cautioned police detectives against over-dependence on sniffer dogs while compiling evidence.

While addressing security officers, village, parish, and sub-county leaders in Bukomansimbi district at Butenga sub-county headquarters Tuesday, Natembo noted with concern the quality of the cases presented before various courts for trial.

Natembo explained that many courts throw out cases due to the failure of the police to use scientific methods while gathering evidence and instead rely on sniffer dogs,  which she described as laziness.

She revealed that on several occasions police submit case files with very big gaps and avoidable mistakes that affect the court trial process hence forcing the public to lose trust in the judiciary.

She also blamed the village council leaders for being dishonest while witnessing transactions in their areas.

Natembo noted that many village council leaders are fond of signing illegal sale and loan agreements that have caused unnecessary losses to the residents.

Yasin Kawuma Ssalongo and Joseph Kamuli, the chairpersons of Kigangazi town council and Kitanda Sub County respectively asked the magistrates to organize more public engagements to enable locals to understand the court processes.

They claimed that some case files are deliberately mishandled by detectives after pocketing bribes from the offenders.

Christine Namawuba, the Bukomansimbi District Police Commander said that she had taken note of the concerns and pledged to make the necessary follow-up to identify and fix the gaps.
