Annet Nandudu, the Bulambuli LCV Chairperson has asked the government to consider permanent solutions for people residing in disaster-prone areas.
Nandudu noted that although relief items were a handy remedy for the disaster victims, OPM must consider permanent solutions for the people residing in disaster-prone areas, especially those in Bulambuli. She said that the Ministry promised to relocate the affected people, but nothing has been done to date.

She was speaking on Thursday during a visit of the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness, Relief and Refugees, Lilian Aber who had rushed to Bulambuli to assess the magnitude of the Sunday's mudslides.
The mudslides which were triggered by torrential rains affected villages of Kifudu, Kikuyu, Nakitembeti, Nambekye, Lukungu, Kikolo West and Mapeera in Namisuni sub-county, Elgon North County.
During the visit to the affected villages, Aber told the media that cracks have developed in some areas putting the lives of residents at high risk of a possible landslide. Aber added that some of the rocks overlooking other villages in Bulambuli had developed cracks.

Aber asked the district leaders and officials from the Office of the Prime Minister – OPM to embrace community sensitization about the dangers of the landslides.

During her meeting with hundreds of the displaced people who are now camping at the sub-county headquarters of Namisuni, Aber handed over an assortment of relief items.
