Bundibugyo District Muslim leadership is hunting for more than Shillings 400 million to kick start the construction of a new district main mosque. The mosque will also host the offices of Bundibugyo Muslim District Council, which serves Bundibugyo and Ntoroko districts.

The current mosque was built in the 1960s by Hajji Abas Kasibante hailing from Masaka district. Bundibugyo has more than 100 mosques. However, the leaders say the existing mosque is dilapidated, out of standard, and can no longer accommodate the high number of worshippers.

Sheikh Ismael Swalleh Aliganyira, the Bwamba County Sheikh told URN that they have so far managed to collect Shillings 40 million to kick start the work. He says the mosque will have two floors with the upper section serving as a worshipping area for the women and accommodating offices.
