Seventh Day Adventists in Bushenyi are protesting a decision by the party NRM electoral commission to set the primaries for a Saturday. The NRM party electoral commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi has set Saturday 17th October as poling date to elect flag bearers in Bushenyi district.

Some of the aspirants who are Adventists disagreed with Odoi\'s decision, arguing that they cannot take part in the elections on Saturday, since it is their day of worshiping.

Millie Buzale and Julius Bainomugisha, all aspirants for Ishaka division councilor were bitter with Dr. Odoi for not been considerate with them.

Cue out:…… in church.”//

Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality has over 2,000 voters who are Adventists. By press time, Dr. Odoi still maintained the date for the primaries.

Party primaries to elect division, sub-county chairpersons and district councilors in Bushenyi district were postponed last month following a petition to President Yoweri Museveni from a group of Bushenyi elders.

The elders led by Yorokam Bashaasha demanded for the postponement on grounds that misunderstandings between Hassan Basajjabalaba, the NRM district chairperson and Wills Bashaasha, the LC 5 chairperson for Bushenyi district would not allow free and fair elections to take place unless the national party chairperson intervenes.

Bashaasha fell out with his party chairperson Basajjabalaba after openly supporting his immediate political rival, Gordon Alinda for Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality MP seat.
