Residents of Sikuda Sub-county in Busia district are protesting poor service delivery at Sikuda health center III and calling for the transfer of the in-charge.

They accuse the health center in-charge, Winfred Nekesa of absenteeism, saying that she only appears once a week at the facility, records ghost patients and keeps the drugstore under lock and key when she is away.

They also claim during the immunisation outreach, she recruits non-health workers from Busia town and denies fellow health personal protective equipment when attending to patients. The angry residents stormed Sikuda health center III on Thursday morning and asked Nekesa to leave immediately.

A health worker at the facility told URN on condition of anonymity that the majority of patients show up at the facility and leave without being attended to because the drugs are always locked in the store.  The health workers explained that whenever they try to raise the matter with the in-charge, she becomes rude and harasses them.

Aminah Nakku, a Traditional Birth Attendant-TBA attached to the facility, says that they often get stuck with expectant mothers at the facility because the in-charge denies them gloves.
