A 34-year-old businessman in Pader district has committed suicide after allegedly failing to get adequate compensation for his bull which was stolen by clanmates.

Christopher Oola, a resident of Angagura Trading center in Angagura Sub-county reportedly hanged himself on Wednesday, about half a kilometer from his home in Angagura A village, Kalawinya parish.

It's reported that Oola lost a bull in October this year and an investigation fond that the animal was stolen by his clanmates who later sold it in Gulu city.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, Aswa River Region Police spokesperson notes that suspects in the theft of the bull were arrested but the clan members preferred an out of court arrangement to compensate Oola.  Okema says the suspects compensated Oola with  1.4 million shillings and another bull but he insisted on getting more money to recoupshis expenses.

A meeting convened by his clan elders on October 31 to address his grievance but it ended prematurely after he left the meeting in tears claiming that his views were not being considered.

Okema says Oola who was already frustrated visited one of his kinsmen on Wednesday morning but failed to get him adding that when he returned to his home, he picked a rope and walked away while crying.

He adds that his children followed him for about half a kilometer but returned home to inform their mother after seeing him climb a tree. Their mother reportedly arrived at the scene when Oola had already died.

A case of death by suicide has been registered at Angagura Police Station vide Pader CRB 580/2020.

This comes barely two months after a 54-year-old woman committed suicide in Lwala village in Puranga Sub county after suspecting her husband of having an extramarital affair. The deceased, identified as Matilda Adong reportedly ingested poison, after a brawl with her husband David Opira.
