Mercy Ataho announced National Unity Platform-NUP's Bamugye the winner of the electoral race having earned 4595 votes defeating the incumbent, David Balaba, an independent who garnered 2945 votes.

The Iganga district returning officer, on Monday night declared Richard Bamugemye as the newly elected mayor of Iganga municipality.
Mercy Ataho announced National Unity Platform-NUP's Bamugye the winner of the electoral race having earned 4,595 votes defeating the incumbent, David Balaba, an independent who garnered 2,945 votes.
Bamugye is the overall NUP coordinator in Busoga sub region.
National Resistance Movement -NRM's Asuman Dhabasadha came in third position with 2,313 votes.
Bamugemye promised to improve on the road infrastructure within the municipality.
"Our roads are in a dilapidated state and I plan on lobbying the central government to ensure that our road network within the municipality is restored," he said.
Meanwhile, runner-up Balaba says he is consulting his lawyers on his way next step after his rival being declared winner and taking his job.
