Busoga region has organized a grand celebration to honour the appointment of Rebecca Kadaga as the first female speaker in Uganda's history.
The celebrations organized by businessmen and politicians will be preceded by Juma prayers on June 17th dedicating Kadaga to Allah, this will be followed by a sanitation event involving cleaning and planting trees across Busoga region and the climax will be on Sunday June 19th with a special prayers at St Andrews Church and a grand thanksgiving ceremony at Busoga square.
The organizing committee headed by Kigulu south MP, Milton Muwuma Kalulu, says celebrating Kadaga’s appointment is important because she has elevated the image of Busoga region to greater heights.
Daudi Migereko, the coordinator of the grand celebration, described it as a blessing for Busoga to produce the first ever female speaker in Uganda’s history.
Formerly the deputy speaker of the eighth parliament, Kadaga was elevated to the position of speaker after beating FDC’s Budadiri west MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi with 302 votes against 57.
