Cabinet Approves Creation of Terego District

According to Namuyangu, Terego district will become operational at the start of the 2020/2021 financial year. She says Shillings 20.7 billion is needed to operationalize the district.

Cabinet has approved the creation of Terego District. The Local Government State Minister, Jennifer Namuyangu disclosed this at a media briefing the government owned media center.

   

The new district, which will be curved out of Arua, will comprise of Terego East and Terego West counties. 

According to Namuyangu, Terego district will become operational at the start of the 2020/2021 financial year. She says Shillings 20.7 billion is needed to operationalize the district.    

Namuyangu disclosed that Shillings 18 billion will be picked from Arua District.

Namuyangu argued that Terego’s quest for a district status has been pending since 2009.

 

“The approval is based on a request by the people of Terego supported by a resolution of Arua District Council to alter the boundaries of Arua and create new a district,” she said.

 

She said Terego has a population of 204,009 people living in 37,006 households. Namuyangu said cabinet recognized that the population deserves a district status.   

The new district will have 67 government aided primary schools with a total enrollment of 66,845 pupils and six government aided secondary schools with an enrollment of 2,076 students and one technical school. 

It will have one hospital, one health center IV, eight health center IIIs and ten health center IIs.
