Cabinet Approves Splitting Nakawa Division, creation of 31 new Counties

State Minister for ICT Peter Ogwang told journalists in Kampala on Tuesday, that the approval of these new counties is a move to bring services closer to the people and ensure fair distribution of resources among Ugandans. Nakawa Division in Kampala will now be split into two constituencies, he said.

Cabinet has approved the creation of 31 new counties in various parts of the country. This is in addition to another 15 new constituencies that were approved by Cabinet recently and awaiting parliamentary approval.

State Minister for ICT Peter Ogwang told journalists in Kampala on Tuesday, that the approval of these new counties is a move to bring services closer to the people and ensure fair distribution of resources among Ugandans. Nakawa Division in Kampala will now be split into two, he said.

The proposed new counties include: Kapere (Ngora district), Butiru (Manafwa) Kyoga North (Amolatar), Napero West (Karenga), Bukora East (Napak), Nwoya East (Nwoya), Namayingo South (Namayingo), Elgon North (Bulambuli) Samia Bugwe South (Busia) and Mawogola West (Sembabule).

Others are: Otuke East (Otuke), Ruhama East (Ntungamo), Isingiro West (Isingiro), Two county (Bukwo), Okyero (Kaberamaido), Soy (Kween), Namisindwa (Namisindwa), Gweli (Soroti),  Pingire (Serere), Bukonko central (Mbale), Aringa East (Yumbe), Kyaka Central (Kyegegwa), Ruhinda South (Mitooma), Kyigai (Bududa), Gogonya (Palisa), Busiki North (Namutumba), Maruzi North (Apac), Rwampara East (Rwampara), Bugangahizi (Kikuube), West Budama North East (Tororo) and Dodoth North (Kaabong).

Should the new constituencies pass the next level of scrutiny, parliament will be looking at an expansion of representatives from 426 to 472 seats.
