The Sacred heart Ntungamo town Catholic parish has opened a Paediatric Clinic. This is the first clinic with specialized services for children in Ntungamo District.

St. Raphael Children’s Clinic has two wards with five beds each, a laboratory, a dispensary and a doctor’s room.

The clinic was opened on Wednesday by President Museveni.

Rev. Fr. John Baptist Tumusiime, the parish priest, says that the clinic will offer specialized treatment for children below 13 years suffering from malnutrition, pneumonia, malaria, diarrhoea and cough.

Fr. Tumusiime says that they expect to treat more than 10 children on each day.

Fr. Tumusiime explains that the idea of the clinic was mooted after he found out that more than 30 children from Ntungamo were receiving treatment at Holy Innocents Clinic in Mbarara, which is more than 60 kilometers away.

According to Fr. Tumusiime, there are also plans to expand the clinic which will cost more than 900 million shillings. He adds that they are yet to set the costs of treating children at the facility.

Edith Ashaba, a mother from Kikoni town parish, says that construction of the children’s clinic is timely. Ashaba explains that she has been struggling to access health services in Ntungamo for her seven-year-old son who is suffering from Pneumonia.
