Centenary Bank Loans Officer Jailed for Fraud

The Centenary Bank Loans officer has been jailed for fraud.
Trevor Tomusange, was arrested by police last evening from the bank's branch, in Natete Kampala.
Tomusange is accused of defrauding John Karuhanga, a businessman in Masindi. He is alleged to have committed the offence two years ago while he served as a Loans officer at Centenary Bank Hoima Branch.
The businessman claims that he gave 980,000 shillings to Tomusange as the final loan re-payment, but instead the loans officer diverted the money for his personal use, without reflecting it in the banks accounts.
Centenary bank does not have a branch in Masindi but their field staff in Hoima occasionally gives loans and collects money from their Masindi clientele
Trouble however came when the bank published Karuhanga's name as a loan defaulter and threatened to sell off his land.
Karuhanga sued the loans officer.
Appearing before Maria Ayo, the Masindi Grade One Magistrate, Tomusange denied the charges. He denied ever getting any money from Karuhaga. He was sent on remand to Masindi government prison till November 10th when his case comes up for mention.
But preliminary investigations by police so far indicate that on two occasions, Tomusange transferred money from his account to Karuhanga's account, indicating that there was an understanding between the two.
