Chinese National Remanded Over UBC land

Wang Shujin, a Chinese national has been remanded to Luzira prison for issuing bouncing cheques to Uganda Broadcasting Corporation. Shujin appeared this afternoon before Grace Balintuma, the Buganda Road grade one magistrate.

Wang Shujin, a Chinese national has been remanded to Luzira prison for issuing bouncing cheques to Uganda Broadcasting Corporation. Shujin appeared this afternoon before Grace Balintuma, the Buganda Road grade one magistrate. He is facing 69 counts of issuing false cheques to Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) but he could not be charged as he could not speak any other language. Shujin only spoke very few incoherent English words.

Left with no way forward Balintuma remanded him until Friday when an interpreter would be available in Court. Prosecution alleges that Shujin issued bouncing cheques worth shillings 1.3 billion for the purchase of UBC land in Bugolobi. Shujin who is the director of Sino East Africa trade development limited allegedly committed the offence on 27th May 2011.

In June, Shujin was questioned by police over the bounced cheques for the 48 acres of land belonging to UBC. His company bought the land from Extreme Innovation, a company in which two women ministers and a former woman MP are shareholders. He issued 69 cheques for 20m each in favour of UBC that bouncing forcing the corporation to pay sh8.5m in fine.
