Clan Leaders Disagree on Newly Elected Kigulu Chief

One of the clan leaders, Sirimani Mwiko told journalists on Saturday that, the Kigulu throne is hereditary and there was no need for them to elect someone outside the late Gologolo's family.
A section of clan heads from Kigulu chiefdom has expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which the new royal chief, Chris Mudoola was elected. Mudoola was elected to replace Patrick Gologolo, who succumbed to prostrate cancer early this month.

Twenty-eight members of the "Abaise Ngobi," clan held a harmonization meeting at the Iganga district headquarters on October 06th, 2022, where they nominated three candidates including Chris Mudoola, Peter Kilegeya, and Patrick Izimba.

The chiefdom's royal prince, Ismael Kyeyago, declared Mudoola as the overall winner after 23 clan leaders voted in his favor. One of the clan leaders, Sirimani Mwiko told journalists on Saturday that, the Kigulu throne is hereditary and there was no need for them to elect someone outside the late Gologolo's family.

Mwiko accused a section of individuals of manipulating the vulnerability of the late Gologolo's family to technically grab the throne from them. Resty Gologolo, one of the family members says that they were never consulted on the election process following the death of their father, making the whole process unfair.

"Those clan leaders have never consulted us to guide them on the rightful election protocols and they only hijacked us to attend the election without any prior briefing," she said. However, Kyeyago says that, unlike other chiefdoms, their throne is rotational and each of the 28 clan leaders has equal rights to the throne whenever a reigning chief dies.

Mudoola has promised to reconcile the warring factions so as to ensure proper representation of the interests of the chiefdom at the Busoga kingdom headquarters.
