Police in Jinja on Wednesday fired teargas and live bullets to
disperse rowdy Boda Boda Cyclists who were protesting the death of their colleague,
Mukasa was knocked dead by a Fuso truck registration number; UAQ
984B at 5:00 am.
The cyclists from Mafubira Sub County in Jinja district vandalized the truck and blocked the Jinja-Kamuli high
way paralyzing traffic for close to two hours.
The protest forced passengers to use alternative routes like
Budondo road and part of Iganga highway.
They allege that the truck driver, David Mukasa fled the scene.
Eria Musobya, the chairperson of Jinja Boda Boda Union warned his colleagues
against mob justice and also tasked drivers to respect the lives of other road
“We have already lost one of own however, mob justice is not the
way to go but rather letting the law to take its course is a more favorable
way,” he says.
Pius Asiimwe, the officer in -charge of Jinja Central Police Station confirms
the incident adding that they are hunting for the truck driver.
