Construction of the much-needed public toilet in Fort Portal municipality in
Kabarole district has started.
Currently, the municipality lacks a public toilet, which forces visitors to use private washrooms.
The project, which is estimated to cost
Shillings 64 million, is expected to be completed by June 21, 2019.
On Tuesday, Kabarole Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Festus
Bandeba launched the construction of a new public toilet along Lugard road.
Bandeba asked
the contractors, Kakooza Engineering Services Limited to ensure they do
standard work within the specified period of time.

The
construction works will be financed with funds from
Uganda Support
to Municipal Infrastructure Development –USMID project.
Herbert Mugisa, the South Division LC III chairperson,
says the construction of the toilet is in response to public demand for a
public toilet in the town center.
He says they also hope to tackle the problem
of poor sanitation as some people had resorted to open defecation at night.

Mugisa said that once the construction is
complete, the municipal council will decide the user fees.
