The Lamwo district LCV Chairperson Sisto Ocen Oyet says the area where the project is being implemented never had any road network before and the farming communities were being challenged in terms of connectivity.
Government has launched the construction of an 11.9
kilometers community access road connecting Agoro and Potika Sub Counties in
Lamwo district under the Programme for Restoration of Livelihoods in Northern
Uganda (PRELNOR).
The construction of community access road works worth
over shillings 2.1 billion being undertaken by KWED construction Company Ltd is
being funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
In his remarks at the commissioning ceremony held at
Ywaya Primary School on Wednesday, the Lamwo district Chief Administrative Officer Alex
Felix Majeme says the community access road will connect the two villages of
Ywaya in Agoro and Oboko in Agoro and Potika Sub Counties respectively.
According to Majeme, construction of the community access
road is meant to facilitate the movement of people, farming goods to markets
and provision of agricultural extension services to rural communities which
will in turn enhance food security, increase incomes and reduce vulnerability
among the population.

The Lamwo district LCV Chairperson Sisto Ocen Oyet says
the area where the project is being implemented never had any road network
before and the farming communities were being challenged in terms of
connectivity.
According to Ocen, initially community members within the
project area would use longer routes to travel and transport their goods covering over 20 kilometers through Madi Opei or Rudi parish in Agoro
Sub County.
Ocen says upon completion, the project will be able to
help community members have access to other social services but most
importantly farmers who had failed to access markets for their farm produce due
to lack of roads in the vicinity.

The Lamwo Resident District Commissioner, Charles Ichogor
who presided over the launch says the project is in line with Uganda’s vision
of facilitating social economic transformation in the district and the country
at large through infrastructural development.
Ichogor called on community members to ensure
transparency and value for money by owning the project and closely monitoring
its implementation.

Ichogor however, directed the contractor to ensure
that the project is completed within the six months stipulated time frame and
also warned against tendencies of misappropriation of project funds and shoddy
work.
