Construction Of USMID Roads Launched in Busia Municipality

The construction of 3 kilometres of roads under Uganda support to Municipality Infrastructure Development- USMID project has been launched in Busia Municipality.

The 19 Billion Shillings road project is funded by World Bank and the construction works have been awarded to Dott Services Limited.

Roads under construction include the Busia SS road, Wanyama Bony road, market square road, Obernester road, Ekaka road and refurbishment of Busia Tax Park.

Judith Nabakooba, the Minister of Land, Housing and Urban Development says that the road will boost trade at the Busia border. She cautioned the contractor against shoddy works and not completing the project in time.

Kenbert Kaganzi, the manager Dott service Ltd, says that they have started by clearing and removing the topsoils on the roads and they hope to complete the work within a specified period.

Peter Ojambo Lwande, George Kikomeko, Irene Nandera among other residents in Busia Municipality say that most of the roads in the area are too narrow and full of potholes and lack culverts.

They also want Busia Municipal council to open new roads, especially in Arubaine village.

Sadiq Amin Agele, the Busia Municipality Mayor, appealed to the government to construct other roads in the area.
