COVID-19: Three Business Premises Temporarily Closed in Arua

The Arua District COVID-19 taskforce has temporarily closed three business premises after a man who tested positive for the virus transacted business and interacted with workers at the three premises.

Ji Hong Yun supermarket owned by by Chinese, Yasmin Dry Cleaning Shop and Dream Saloon, a popular saloon were closed and sealed off to the public on Wednesday and over 15 people quarantined.

According to officials of the district COVID-19 taskforce, a man traveled from Kampala to Arua and later tested positive. The man reportedly went to the three premises and interacted with workers there.

The man later picking a tri-circle (TukuTuku) to drop him at Arua district headquarters where he had been called by a member of the taskforce for isolation.

Paul Bishop Drileba, the DHO Arua and focal point person district COVID-19 taskforce confirmed to Uganda Radio Network - URN that the three premises have been closed and some people who were around taken to quarantine.

He however, noted that more premises could face temporary closure since the man who tested positive for COVID-19 spent a lot of time in Arua town interacting with various people before he was picked away.   // Cue in; We have closed the.…Cue out; of that institution…." //  

Meanwhile, Sandra Ewacabo, the coordinator Arua district COVID-19 taskforce explained that the situation in Arua town could worsen with the increasing number of contacts of the positive man who is now under treatment at Arua referral hospital.

Arua City Resident Commissioner -RDC, Nahori Oya who is also the  chairperson district COVID-19 taskforce has warned the public to be vigilant and observe standard operating procedures for COVID-19 prevention at all times to avoid escalating the pandemic in the city and the region.

Currently, Arua has over 180 COVID-19 now quarantined in their homes and 5 positive cases under treatment at Arua hospital.
