Cranes Initiative Targets UGX200 Million For Cecafa Challenge Cup

The newly formed Uganda Cranes Initiative under the chairmanship of Robert Kabushenga has today launched a drive for over 200 million shillings to be raised from the general public for the Cranes preparation to defend the forth coming Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup title.

The newly formed Uganda Cranes Initiative under the chairmanship of Robert Kabushenga has today launched a drive for over 200 million shillings to be raised from the general public for the Cranes preparation to defend the forth coming Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup title.

Kabusenga, also the New Vision Newspaper Chief Executive Officer, during a press briefing at the Rivonia Suites in Mbuya denied that the organisers are ambitious for any football positions. He said that Cranes Initiative's major aim is to help the national team have all they require inorder for them achieve.

He said the 200 million shillings will be used for, among other expenses, purchasing new playing kits for players, upgrading the accommodation of the team during training and games, and improved medical attention during the next one month.  He revealed that Rivonia Suites have offered a big discount and now they need 90 million shillings to pay them for the duration the team will stay there full board.

Cranes coach Bobby Williamson and the FUFA spokesman Rogers Mulindwa praised the team behind the initiative and said they are glad this is happening at such a time because the national team needs to work with many partners inorder to achieve results.

FUFA Vice President in-charge of League and also sits on the technical, Mujib Kasule said it was an initiative in the right direction.

Kabushenga said that if 10,000 people contribute Ushs20,000 each the initiative  will be able hit its target within no time .

The interventions chosen by the Uganda Cranes Initiative (UCI) also include a total of 250 cartons of bottled drinking water for the team during training and games, which has been offered by Rwenzori Bottling Company, while SMS Media has offered to pay for goalkeeper’s gloves and all snaers for the team.

The UCI also announced that the Uganda Cranes will this Saturday host a Fans’ Day at the KCCA Grounds in Lugogo, along Jinja Road from 9am to1pm where fans and their families will interact with the Cranes team.
