The government hospital located in Olami cell, Ikwera ward in Aduku Town Council, was established as a dispensary in the early 1940s with only a general ward and an OPD structure, however from the time of its construction, the district has not put up another ward citing financial burdens.
Kwania
District authorities and residents have cried out to the government to consider
giving a facelift to Aduku Health Center IV.
Aduku
Health Center IV is the biggest health facility in the district and receives patients
from Kwania and the neighbouring Apac, Kole districts and some parts of Dokolo district.
Located in Olami cell in Ikwera ward in
Aduku Town Council, Aduku health Center IV as a dispensary in the early 1940s
with a general ward and an Out-Patient Department-OPD.
The district
has not added any new structures at the health center since construction citing
budget constraints.
Dr. Moses Ebong, the Kwania District Health
Officer, says that currently, all patients share the same ward.
He noted that
lumping men and women in the same ward is highly discouraged under medical
practice.
Our reporter visited the general ward at Aduku Health Centre IV on
Thursday and found a male patient laying among female and child patients.
Richard Omara,
a resident of Acokoaola Village in Nambieso Sub-county in Kwania, who was
nursing his ten-year-old son, decried the lack of privacy in the health center.
He appealed to the government to construct another building to mitigate the
problem.

Adoch, another resident said sharing the ward with children is exposing the
minors to infections.
Joan Abutu, the Kwania district Health and Education
Secretary, said that the situation is abnormal and asked the central government
to intervene in the matter.

Kwania District LC V Chairperson, Geoffrey Alex
Ogwal Adyebo, noted that they have taken the necessary steps required to
upgrade the facility.
He called for calm from residents, saying they are
following up the matter with the line ministries.
