Security personnel in Kitgum have quelled a revenge attack in Orom
East Sub-county in Kitgum District following the murder of a 22-year-old man
over alleged theft.
The deceased identified as John Ali a resident of Lucomo central village in
Akurumo Parish was reportedly speared to death from his home at about 4 am on
Wednesday by Simon Nagara. The suspect reportedly speared Ali on his left
chest, killing him instantly.
John Bosco Okorio, the Secretary LCI Lucomo central village in a statement to
the police says the suspect accused Ali of breaking into his shop and looting
among others five eggs and an unspecified amount of money.
The incident however sparked off anger among relatives of the deceased who
later retaliated at about 9 am by torching six grass-thatched huts and
destroying several properties belonging to the suspect and his relatives.
Bruno Nelson, Orom East Sub-County Chairperson says that the
situation was only quelled from getting worst by the timely intervention of
police and local Defense personnel.
He however called on the aggrieved community to restrain from further
retaliating over the incident.
Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong says that the suspect
has since been apprehended and is in police custody. He adds that detectives on
Wednesday visited the crime scene and recovered the spear which will be used to
aid the investigation.
Mudong says the police have commenced investigating the murder which has been
registered under CRB759/2021. Meanwhile, the deceased body by press time was
still lying at the crime scene pending a post-mortem.
The Orom east incident comes just three days after a 45-year-old
man identified as Walter Okello was hit on the head with a big stick by his
colleague during a fight over shillings 1,000 in Lagara South village in Lapul
Sub-county Pader District. Okello later succumbed to his injuries on Sunday
morning at Pajule Health Center IV.
