Deceased's Relatives Torch Houses, Loot Over 30 Animals

Maxwell Ogwal, the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, says a team of senior police officers have rushed to Otuboi to calm down the situation as investigations are ongoing.
Irarak Clan members in Kaberamaido district have rampaged burning several houses and looting over 30 animals to avenge the death of their daughter. They were enraged by the gruesome killing of 24-year-old Lydia Aryekot 24 by her husband, David Opio.

Aryekot is said to have been hacked to death by her husband, David Opio on Sunday evening in the compound of Town View Nursery and Primary School in Ojukot village. The killing of Aryekot prompted her relatives to storm Opio's village on Monday morning to avenge her death.

They torched several houses and looted more than 30 animals. The area councilor, Moses Oryada, says Aryekot had left her marital home and was staying with her brother, the director of Town View Nursery and Primary school resulting from domestic violence.

Oryada says Opio, who is on the run, was seen by some people sharpening an axe at Otuboi cattle market on Saturday. Maxwell Ogwal, the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, says a team of senior police officers have rushed to Otuboi to calm down the situation as investigations are ongoing.

None of the suspects had been picked up by the time of filing this story.
