Defilement Victim’s Father Tasks Police to Hunt the Fugitive Suspect

Grace Pande, the OC CID Gulu said the suspect jumped over the fence of the police station at a time when the cells were opened for the suspects to go and ease themselves. The OC says the police officer who was on duty is being investigated.

Denise Ojwee, the father of a defilement victim has tasked police to hunt the suspect who escaped from police custody on Sunday night.

Eric Olanya, aged 18 was charged with Aggravated Defilement under Gulu CRB 1249/2020 after he allegedly had sexual intercourse of the 10-year-old minor. The minors was defilement on November 3rd at around midday from their residence at Cubu A and B, Tegwana Parish, Pece –Laroo Division in Gulu City.

According to Ojwee, police should speed up the hunt for the suspect and bring him to book and that once re-arrested, the suspected should also be charged with escape from lawful custody on top of the Aggravated Defilement.

Ojwee said when he went to find out how the suspect escaped alone, he was told that the suspect escaped at night while they were taken out to bathe, something he said was suspicious. 

He therefore also appealed to the Police Professional Standards Units –PSU to investigate the officer who was on duty when the suspect escaped.

Grace Pande, the OC CID Gulu said the suspect jumped over the fence of the police station at a time when the cells were opened for the suspects to go and ease themselves. 

According to Pande, the hunt for him is ongoing and any time he shall be apprehended. He also appealed to the members of the public to avail police with any information regarding the whereabouts of the fugitive.

He also revealed that the police officer on duty is being investigated and that if they find out that he aided the escape, he shall be charged.
