Dr. Atwine Directs Disciplinary Action Against Workers at Rugazi Health Center

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Dr. Diana Atwiine has directed Rubirizi district authorities to take disciplinary action against health workers at Rugazi health Center IV in Rubirizi district accused of absenteeism and extorting money from patients.

Dr. Atwine was shocked to find a nearly empty health facility noting that it is proof of the complaints raised by the residents.

She said that the district leadership has the discretion to discipline or suspend any health worker failing in their duties.

Rubirizi District LC V Chairperson, Sylvester Agubanshongorera, says that he was forced to talk to the permanent Secretary because the situation had gone out of hands at the facility with a lot of extortion and absenteeism. 

He said locals had abandoned the health unit for failure to get the required health services.

Rubirizi district Health Officer, Dr. Tibenda Kisesete blamed the poor service delivery at Rugazi health center IV on the poor relationship between all the stakeholders in the district. Dr. Kisesete says that they are going to investigate absenteeism at the facility and the culprits will face disciplinary action.

Julius Bate, a patient that was found at the facility, asked the government to take action against the errant workers.
