The staff Mark Kamanzi states that throughout the time he has served in the office, he had never been accused of any case which would constitute the basis for his termination. He adds that the process that led to his termination was illegal, irrational and unreasonable.
Application filed by Mark Kamanzi the head of legal services at National Drugs Authority
The former Head of Legal Services at the National Drug Authority-NDA, Mark Kamanzi, has dragged the authority to court for unfair dismissal.
Kamanzi was contracted Head of Legal Services of the National Drug Authority on December 18, 2015. He officially assumed office on January 4, 2016 for a fixed term of five years. His contract runs to January 2021. However, the contract was abruptly suspended, on June 6, for reasons that were not spelt out in his termination letter.
He contends that his five year contract was unfairly terminated and wants court to issue an interim order stopping his termination. Kamanzi states that throughout the time he has served in the office, he had never been accused of any case which would constitute the basis for his termination. He adds that the process that led to his termination was illegal, irrational and unreasonable.
"I started executing my duties on the January 4 2016 and I have never received any verbal, or written warning nor reprimand or any other disciplinary measure against me from either the appointing authority or at all since my service has been sincere and impeccable," Kamanzi says in an affidavit.
He accuses NDA boss Dr Medard Dr Bitekyerezo of acting without due regard to the rules of natural justice and in total abuse of his office with intention of damaging his career in purporting to terminate the contract.
The Civil Division of High Court adjourned the application for the interim order to Monday June 19. The matter is before Justice Joyce Kavuma.
