The police in Kotido have arrested a truck driver for alleged human trafficking.

The Kotido District Police Commander Jimton Aguta says they are holding Godfrey Mwambo and have preferred charges of human trafficking against him.

He was intercepted on Tuesday with 27 girls aged between 11- 17 years old aboard a lorry truck registration number UAL 971U at Lokitelaebu Town Council, in Kotido Sub County.

Upon interrogation, police said the girls were being transported without consent from their parents.

Aguta said the girls were heading to neighbouring Obalanga in Kapelebyong district, Teso sub-region to work as casual Labourers.

They were found in possession of several items like hoes, saucepans, Jerry cans among others.

They are currently being kept in the police custody as police search for their parents.

It’s common for children from Karamoja to go to the neighbouring districts in search of labour but sometimes end up on the streets of Kampala.
