Driver Dies while Loading Murrum

According to Charles Ssenabulya, the area L.C.1 chairperson, extensive excavations at the Marum mine have weakened the soil particles, making it a risky hub for accidents, especially during rainy seasons. He challenged miners to team up with security operatives to streamline safety measures at the mine.
Police in Busoga East are investigating the death of 30-year-old Dan Malinzi, who died while loading murrum onto his truck in Nabitende Coffee B village, Kidago sub-county, Iganga district, during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Malinzi, a driver of truck number UBL 532F, was directing casual laborers to load marum when he slid into the rubble and died. His lifeless body, which was chopped into pieces, has been retrieved from the crime scene and taken to the Iganga General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

According to Charles Ssenabulya, the area L.C.1 chairperson, extensive excavations at the Marum mine have weakened the soil particles, making it a risky hub for accidents, especially during rainy seasons. He challenged miners to team up with security operatives to streamline safety measures at the mine.

Peter Kibumba, another marum miner, emphasized the need for all individuals operating in the mine to undertake all the set safety measures to avoid accidents. Kibumba also called on government agencies to provide low-cost protective gear, such as helmets, gumboots, overalls, and gloves, for both miners and their guests to limit the extent of damages accrued from related accidents.

Meanwhile, the Busoga East police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula, says that detectives have cordoned off the crime scene and impounded the truck for further investigation.
