The Taxi drivers under their umbrella Mbale Taxi Drivers, Conductors and Owners' Association accuse the proprietors of Express Transport Companies of parking along the streets and transporting passengers yet they are licensed as courier service providers.
Transporters operators in Mbale City have abandoned the taxi park
and opted to operate on the roadside. This follows a dispute between the taxi
operators and the Express transporters.
The Taxi drivers under their umbrella Mbale Taxi Drivers, Conductors and
Owners' Association accuse the proprietors of Express Transport
Companies of parking along the streets and transporting passengers yet
they are licensed as courier service providers.
They claim that by parking on the streets, the Xpress companies
have denied them a chance to carry passengers since they intercept them before
they reach the taxi park. They also accuse the Mbale city Resident City
Commissioner Ahamada Washaki of conniving with the express companies to create
parking spaces on the streets.
The drivers have decided to load and offload passengers along the streets in
protest against the will of the City leadership.
