The Criminal Investigations Directorate is holding Olego Muzamir Olego alias Okello Sadiq Mohammed-Islam, a Dubai based Ugandan broker for allegedly conning some traders in Lira Shillings 120 million.

Olego was picked up from Lira town and transferred to the CID headquarters in Kampala. He is accused of extorting money from traders in Lira under the guise of helping them procure various items in Dubai sometime back.

His victims include are Francis Okullu and Vincent Opio the proprietor of 291 Suites in Lira town. Police investigations show that Olego received over Shillings 100 million from Opio sometime back to supply him hotel items from Dubai, a thing he didn't do.

He reportedly also received close to Shillings 20 million from Okullu last year to buy for him a motor vehicle engine and spares in vain. David Ongom Mudong, the North Kyoga Region police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest, saying Olego's case originated from Kampala where it is being handled.

It is also alleged that Olego has been on the wanted list of Interpol for conning and extorting money from various people in Tanzania and Dubai. Olego has reportedly been eluding arrest at Entebbe and Dubai by traveling to countries like Oman and then connect to Dubai using his alias.
