The Police in Gulu City has arrested eight people for alleged aggravated robbery in Omoro District.

The suspects who are being detained at Gulu Central Police Station include Robert Komakech alias KK, Robert Olal, Gerald Ongole, Morish Ogwal, Winnie Abang, Stella Akullu, Nancy Apio and Winny Prisca Ajok while other suspects still at large.

Their arrest comes after three gunmen attacked the family of Sam Okot, a resident of Olio village, Paidwe Parish in Bobi Sub-County and robbed him of a mobile phone and 1.4 Million Shillings.

Okot alleges that the thugs invaded his home at around 1:00 am while he and his wife Lillian Apio were sleeping. They kicked open the shutter to his grass-thatched hut and demanded money and a key to a motorcycle that was parked inside.

Okot explained that when he declined to heed the directives, the thugs searched his pockets and a scuffle ensued. The couple sounded an alarm forcing the assailants to discharge four bullets in the air as they fled the scene.

Geoffrey Atim, the Chairperson of Kulu Otit Village says that it is the second incident in the area within 14 days. Atim says that gunmen are becoming a threat causing panic among residents. He asked security personnel in the area to address the situation.

He also added that the canine led the team about three kilometres away from the scene to the home of Robert Komakech alias KK a habitual criminal who steals motorcycles.

Ongom also disclosed that while at Komakech's home, the sniffer dog rested on a bag of beans and upon search, ammunition for AK-47 was recovered leading to the arrest of the suspects to help police with further inquiries.
