suspects have been arrested in connection to the arson on a house in Rubanda
district, which claimed the life a mother and her three children. Rovinah
Muheki, her children Edwin Tumworobere, 17, Resty West life Akampumuriza, 15,
and Maria Ekinamushabire, 05 were burnt to ashes in their home in Habutorebe village
in Butare parish in Muko sub-county on Saturday night last week.
The house is
said to have been torched with petrol by the family head Vian Felix
Ahimbisibwe alias Armstrong, 45 following a quarrel with his wife for alleged
mismanagement of a shop leading to its collapse. Ahimbimbisibwe fled the scene but was
apprehended a day after while trying to escape.
On Tuesday evening, police arrested eight more suspects in
connection to the incident. The suspects are Christopher Magezi and his wife Evangilista
NyanduuruBagirogwabusha, both parents of Ahimbisibwe, Anita Magezi, Leonarida Tusimomwe
Buzireine, LestatutaTurinobusingye, Agatha Byaruhanga,Puriciilla
Bahereire and Evangilista Tibenderana, all relatives of the prime suspect.
Tito Tugume, a resident told our reporter that the suspects
were arrested on the orders of Peace Regis Mutuuzo, the Minister of State for
Gender and Culture after holding a meeting with residents at the scene. Tugume says
that residents told the minister that the suspects had prior knowledge of
Ahimbisibwe’s plans but kept quiet.
