An eight-year-old girl, Jollen Namatovu, has been
raped and murdered in broad daylight at Lubatu village, Kasangati town
council, Wakiso district.
According to Tefe Ssentongo, a resident of the
same village, Namatovu was on Wednesday found killed and the body wrapped in a polythene
bag at around 6:30 pm.
“I was walking in my maize garden at around 6:30 pm and
I saw something wrapped in a polythene bag. When I walked close, I saw the body
of a girl. I notified the local authorities that there was a body, wrapped in a
white polythene sack in my maize garden,” Ssentongo said.
Detectives at Kasangati police station have
established that Namatovu who was staying with Pastor Mugisha was sent around 3 pm to go and collect banana peelings. Despite being a pupil at Planet Primary
School in Lubatu village, Namatovu had not gone to school on the fateful day.
“She left this home at 3 pm going to collect banana
peelings from the neighbourhood for our animals as she had always done
especially after school. It was a shock for us to be informed that she was
found killed,” Mugisha’s family member told police.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police
Spokesperson, confirmed that Namatovu’s body was wrapped in the white sack with a
string-like rope tied around her neck. “There was fresh bleeding from the deceased’s
private part an indicator that she could have been raped. We are now searching
for the killers,” Onyango said.
Namatovu’s murder is the third in a fortnight
in Wakiso district. Sharif Nakayingi 48 years was found gang-raped and murdered
inside her house in Wakiso town council three days ago. Police have so far
arrested three suspects using sniffer dogs and they are all women.
Earlier on, Specioza Nabaale, a 31-year-old chips
seller was gang raped and murdered in a banana plantation in Mabanda cell,
Matuga, Gombe division, Wakiso district. A knife that was used to subdue her
was found at the scene of the crime. Police are yet to arrest any suspects in
Nabaale’s murder.
