Electoral Malpractice Allegations Delay Compilation of Kyegegwa Election Results

The major contention is in Kyaka Central where Eryeza Birihariiwe, one of the contestants accuses his rival, Tom Bright, of vote-rigging. He particularly singles out Kibambali and Kasambya polling stations in Kyegeggwa town council where he claims that his voters were turned away and agents didn’t sign the declaration forms.
Allegations of vote-rigging and bribery have delayed the compilation and announcement of results from NRM primaries in Kyegegwa district.  Kyegegwa comprises Kyaka Central, Kyaka North and Kyaka South constituencies.

However, the major contention is in Kyaka Central where Eryeza Birihariiwe, one of the contestants accuses his rival, Tom Bright, of vote-rigging. He particularly singles out Kibambali and Kasambya polling stations in Kyegeggwa town council where he claims that his voters were turned away and agents didn’t sign the declaration forms.

Although the District NRM Secretary, Rebecca Kabaguma confirmed to Birihariiwe that his agents signed on most of the declaration forms, Birihariiwe insists that there is a need for more transparency in the tallying process.

Also, in the Kyegegwa District Woman parliamentary race, Stella Kiiza, the incumbent, accuses her opponent, Flavia Rwabuhoro of conniving with returning officers to rig the votes at the tally centre at Kyegegwa district council chambers.

As a way forward, Kyegegwa Resident District Commissioner, Messach Kawamara directed the vote tallying process that was midway be repeated and votes from each polling station from the district be read out to the candidates as opposed to reading results from Sub Counties and Town Councils as a whole.

The fresh tallying process is ongoing with the final results expected to be declared later in the day.
