Herman Ssentongo, the former Kamuli Resident District Commissioner is on the spot for using a government vehicle in the NRM party campaigns. Ssentongo resigned from the position of Kamuli RDC mid this year to contest for election as NRM flag bearer for the Masaka Municipality MP seat.

The former RDC is facing competition from Maria Nakalanzi Jjuko in the NRM primaries. In August this year, a section of NRM members mostly supporters of Nakalanzi petitioned the NRM secretariat seeking to block Ssentongo\'s nomination.

The petitioners argued that Ssentongo didn\'t resign from the office of RDC and also cited his failure to surrender his official vehicle. They also argued that it was illegal to nominate Ssentongo since he contested as an independent for election as Sembabule LC V chairperson in the 2011 polls.

However, Ssentongo was successfully nominated to contest in the NRM primary elections. Although the NRM party Electoral Commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi banned the use of government vehicles in the campaigns, Ssentongo is seen driving his official vehicle registration number UG 2131C while hunting for votes. Ssentongo claims that he resigned from office and was given the vehicle for good.

Cue out: …stuff altogether.”//

Ssentongo is also facing resistance from NRM supporters in Masaka municipality led by Luke Ssekamwa. They argue that Ssentongo is a reject from Sembabule and want him to step down in favor of Maria Nakalanzi.

They have advised him to go and contest in the newly created Mawogola South constituency, which was curved out of Mawogola County. But Ssentongo will not have any of this.

Cue out: …so one and so forth.”//

Joseph Mugerwa, the Masaka District NRM Electoral Officer says he is not aware of the complaints against Ssentongo adding that even if he did, he doesn\'t have the capacity to remove the vehicle from him. Mugerwa says all parliamentary candidates are directly under the NRM secretariat.

Both Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM party Electoral Commission chairperson and the Minister for Presidency Frank Tumwebaze under whose dockets RDC fall didn\'t pick our repeated calls. The winners of the NRM primaries will face off with Mathias Mpuuga, the incumbent Masaka Municipality Member of Parliament, Peter Mutesasira and Musoke Lule.

In 2011, Mpuuga beat five contestants to win the Masaka Municipality MP seat. They included DP\'s John Kawanga, Francis Mujoobe, Susan Nakawuki, Peter Mutesasira and Ssenyondo Kawoya. Apart from Peter Mutesasira, the other former candidates have not bounced back in the Masaka Municipality MP race.

Francis Mujoobe, the former Masaka Municipality MP flag bearer says he can\'t contest again because he was frustrated by fellow NRM party members in his 2011 election bid.
