Taxi operators in Entebbe Municipality have staged a demonstration after the loading and parking fees were reinstated by the executive.

The executive committee of the taxi operators reinstated the fees  without consulting the operators.

"We held a meeting recently and decided to suspend the collection of loading fees from taxis until a new interim committee is operationalized," said Jean Marie one of the drivers at Kitooro taxi stage.

Rajab Lubwama another driver says that the leadership was also collecting welfare fees whose accountability is unknown.

Police was forced to fire teargas to disperse the angry taxi operators leading to the arrest of three taxi drivers. They are Roger Mukasa, Peter Okodit, Hamiduh Sebunya.

James Mwesigye the Officer in charge of Entebbe Division Police station accused the operators of blocking other businesses from operating in Kitoro town.

Mwesigye says police is currently engaging the leadership of the taxi operators and that of Entebbe municipal council to solve the impasse.

Currently, Entebbe Taxi Park is still undergoing renovation, expansion and upgrade.
