Evicted Residents Camp at Mukono RDCs Office

The residents are from the villages of Kanzi, Kikenye, Kakeeka, Katolo, Kakyanga, Katooke, Kalyambuzi, Kimyufu, Nyanama, Mawagola and Kisu among others. The residents sought help from RDC Fred Bamwine after a one Lawrence Busulwa fenced off the entire island claiming its ownership.

Residents from villages across Damba Island in Koome Sub County, Mukono district have camped at the office of the Resident District Commissioner seeking his intervention to save them from possible eviction.

The residents are from the villages of Kanzi, Kikenye, Kakeeka, Katolo, Kakyanga, Katooke, Kalyambuzi, Kimyufu, Nyanama, Mawagola and Kisu among others. The residents sought help from RDC Fred Bamwine after a one Lawrence Busulwa fenced off the entire island claiming its ownership.

Busuulwa, a renowned area businessman says he bought the land in 2004 and secured all title deeds from Buganda Land Board.

However, the residents say that several of them have been denied access to the land which is now heavily guarded by police personnel. A resident only identified as Ssemakula told URN that they have since turned into destitute because most of their belongings were enclosed in the land.

Gertrude Namwanga another victim of the eviction said that the businessman took possession of her house, animals and plantations.

Alex Benjamin Kigongo, the Chief of Buganda Kingdom in Kyaggwe said that Lawrence Busulwa bought the land and duly compensated all squatters.
