Expired drugs cause panic in soroti

Soroti district medical personnel and other technocrats are in panic following the Discovery of expired drugs that were supplied by National Drug Stores on Wednesday.

The over 1 million mectazin tablets were to be used in the mass treatment of elephantiasis and filariasis the worm that causes Hydrocellus a common disease in this area.

The chief administrative officer George William Omuge said that the district has resolved that the drugs be taken back to the ministry of Health headquarters because they are un fit for human beings.

Omuge however expressed fear that there is going to be public apathy towards the mass treatment exercise that is supposed to begin in the third week of this month.

The District director of health services, Doctor Nicholas Okwana said he is under strict command from his bosses not to speak to the press.

On the streets of Soroti, people questioned the motive of bringing expired drugs in the district.
