The match between the two sides promises to be a tough contest since Uganda’s side has so far bagged two trophies including the domestic Uganda Premier League and the regional CECAFA Kagame Cup in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Wankulukuku based team will have to raise their spirits high if they are to overcome a resilient Sudanese side that has far more experience on the continental level. The two sides will battle in a double header as they struggle to reach the second Preliminary round.

On Wednesday, Express confirmed that their head coach Wasswa Bbossa had renewed his contract with the Wankulukuku based club for another year. This is expected to raise the confidence of the team ahead of the continental championship.

On top of that, Express recently confirmed the signing of midfielder Nicholas Kasozi and defender Deus Bukenya to beef up their squad ahead of their first continental appearance in over 13 years.

The red eagles will need the brilliance of their forwards Erick Kambale, Martin Kiiza and Godfrey Lwesibawa to help them break Al Merrick’s defence.  They also need the experience of Muzamiru Mutyaba and defender Murshid Juuko to help them silence Al Merrikh.

Unfortunately, the Red Eagles will not enjoy their usual fanfare home ground at “Betway Mutesa II memorial stadium” since the stadium does not reach CAF Standards. Express will host the first encounter at St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende and later travel to Sudan for the return leg on 18th September 2021.

Express FC will also miss the supportive environment of their fans since the game will be played behind closed doors. The winner of the two legs on aggregate will advance to the second preliminary round. nd.
