A court in Luweero has convicted a man to six months in jail for masquerading as a lawyer. James Kanzira was arrested today while appearing in before Luweero Chief Magistrate Jesse Byaruhanga as an advocate from Kanzira James & company advocates.

He was representing James Mwesigye and George Tebigwawo who are facing charges of stealing three heads of cattle from Idd Sunzu a resident of Kabunyata village in Luweero Sub County. Byaruhanga become skeptical about Kanzira’s professional qualification because of his conduct after he presented fake papers in court implicating the complainant.

As a result, the chief magistrate ordered him to present his practicing certificate and identity card in vain. Kanzira pleaded guilty of impersonation and pleaded for forgiveness.  But Byaruhanga rejected his pleas saying that conmen have flooded courts to con suspects adding that he can not forgive the one who has reached the level of representing suspects in court sessions.

He therefore sentenced Kanzira to six months in jail for impersonation and contempt of court. Byaruhanga warned that he will not hesitate to give a harsh punishment to whoever is found guilty of impersonating court officials once arrested. Kanzira cried and removed the court robes as the prison warders whisked him away from the court room.   Last week, Robert Kamanzi a truck driver accused of over loading was conned by a man claiming to be a court clerk after he promised to help him resolve his case.
