Farmers in Omoro district have decried the sharp drop in soybean prices over the past one month.

A kilogram of soybean now costs between Shillings 800 and 1000 down from Shillings 2000 to 2500.

Christine Atimango, a farmer from Koro Sub County in Omoro district harvested 7 bags of soybean after investing Shillings 2.5 million in her 5 acre garden.

Solomon Oketta, another farmer in Ongako Sub County wants the district to intervene in what he calls exploitation of their energy and resources by produce dealers.

Oketta harvested 15 bags of soybean from 8 acres he planted in the first season.

Susan Lakot, the Omoro District Production and Marketing Secretary, says she has registered complaints of prices from various farmers.

She revealed that they had dispatched the District Commercial Officer to Lira where most soybean buyers are found to verify the price and source for market.

She advised farmers against rushing to sell their produce if they want to get a realistic amount of money from it.
