A source at the landing site told URN on condition of anonymity that Bawukanya could have been killed by fellow fishermen.
A fisherman in Buyende district has been found dead. The deceased is 38-year-old Steven Bawukanya. Fishermen found the deceased's lifeless body lying on his boat at Bukungu landing site in Kidera Sub County in Buyende district on Tuesday morning.
Bawukanya was last seen alive along the landing site on around 6:30 pm on Monday evening. A postmortem report released by Kidera health center IV shows that Bawukanya's body had a deep wound at the back of his neck and left ear. A source at the landing site told URN on condition of anonymity that Bawukanya could have been killed by fellow fishermen.
"We have boundaries on this side of Lake Kyoga where each one of us is supposed to fish from but some of our colleagues encroach on other peoples' territories, which leads to huge fights at night. I suspect that the deceased might have fallen victim," he said.
Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North Police spokesperson says investigations are underway to establish circumstances surrounding the deceased's death.
"We have interrogated some of the locals who allege that their colleague was murdered investigations are ongoing to ascertain Bawukanya's death," he said. Bawukanya's body has been handed over to the relatives for burial.
