Business grounded to a halt when Asuman Basalirwa led hundreds of his supporters in a procession in the company of Robert Kyagulanyi, the East Member of parliament. They danced to music, blew whistles and vuvuzelas as they drove through Bugiri municipality.

They later caused commotion at the nomination venue prompting Godfrey Musimami, the officer in Charge of Bugiri Police Station to nominate Basalirwa first to calm down the situation. Shortly after the nominations, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the Kyadondo East Member of parliament asked voters to rally behind a candidate of integrity who will ensure the improvement in the economy of the country.

He said most Ugandans are poverty stricken due to corruption among the leaders in the country, adding that there is need to elect people like Basalirwa who will advocate for ordinary citizens.

On his part, Basalirwa pledged to attract investors to Bugiri to set up factories that will help employ youths in the area. He also pledged to provide free legal services to his voters. His NRM rival, John Francis Oketcho urged NRM party members to unite and fight against the oppositions.
