Five suspects, including a police officer, are in custody at Kisoro Police Station on allegations of illegal possession of military hardware. The suspects are Private Trovice Mbazila, a police officer from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force at Police Headquarters Nagulu; Bosco Mugisha, a 51-year-old fisherman from Ganda village, Nabweru-Nansana, Wakiso district, Elias Muheki, a 30-year-old businessman dealing in Irish potatoes from Rwebikona in Mbarara city; and a one Sekiranda, a 32-year-old Boda-boda rider from Katooke village, Nabweru-Nansana, Wakiso district.

The arrests took place around 11:30 PM on Tuesday night following a tip-off from a concerned resident. The resident reported the presence of strangers who had parked a Noah motor vehicle with registration number UAQ 236M on Busamba Road in Kisoro town for an extended period, raising suspicions of a possible mission.

The police responded swiftly, apprehending all individuals present at the scene while others managed to flee. Upon searching the vehicle at Kisoro Police Station, three magazines loaded with 90 rounds of ammunition, a pair of Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) uniforms, a UPDF warm suit, a GPS machine, binoculars, and a screwdriver were discovered.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing. Additionally, the suspects were found in possession of a loaded UPDF XK 576754 gun, hidden at Home Lodging on Kivenfere Road in Kisoro Municipality.

However, Mbazila, the police officer, claims ownership of the motor vehicle and some of the items found inside. He alleges that he had loaned the vehicle to a friend (whose identity he declined to disclose) who works as a driver at Cyanika border.

Mbazila states that the driver had requested to borrow the vehicle for personal use but instead used it to rent a room at Home Lodging, where the gun was subsequently discovered. However, Mbazila's account regarding the origin of the hardware remains unclear. The case has been registered at Kisoro Police Station under file number SD 69/13/06/2023.
