Daniel Okello
Okello alias Dan Okello, a former candidate for the Dokolo South constituency
parliamentary seat has succumbed to COVID-19. Okello breathed his last at Case
Clinic in Kampala where he was admitted on Tuesday upon his return from
Karamoja with complaints of cough and flu. The deceased has been diabetic.
His brother,
Walter Odongo, says that Okello started complaining on Friday evening
that he was unwell and was admitted on Tuesday morning. Lira NGO Forum, whose
board Okello chaired has also his death in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Rev. Sylvester Ocen, the Archdeacon Dokolo archdeaconry, described the deceased
as a strong pillar in the protestant church, whose death is a strong blow to
the church.

Many people took to social media to pass their condolence messages to the
deceased’s rival. His rival and former Dokolo
South MP, Paul Amoru, said “This is a very sad day for Lango and Dokolo
district in particular. Dan was a resilient and progressive thinker, development-oriented and God-fearing. I commiserate with his family and the
entire people of Dokolo at this trying moment.”
Similarly, Billie Otto, a radio personality in Lango described the deceased as
a humorous manager whose intentions are pure. “He was an astute manager and
cheerful friend who would employ witty and humorous expressions in advancing
his intentions. I miss him already.” Okello contested for the Dokolo South
Parliamentary seat in 2016 and lost to Omiat. He contested again in 2021 and
lost in the primaries of Moses Ogwal Goli, the incumbent MP.
